She Can Sleep Anywhere. 2024. Pigeon feathers, bodysuit, three hot water bottles, duvet. Nap/ performance duration 1h 47mins. Performed in Nunhead Cemetery Chapel during the Feminist Lecture Programme’s Summer exhibition series.
The human/pigeon appears tired and grey, bringing her bedroom nest of safety and sickness into the public space of the Nunhead Cemetery Chapel. She naps for as long as her body needs her to.
In this performance, disability and femininity are highlighted within the world of ecology. The artist has Ehlers Danlos Syndrome and Fibromyalgia, both of which disproportionately affect women, and are historically understudied and underdiagnosed. Due to her chronic pain and fatigue, she needs to nap frequently regardless of her surroundings, and so the performance will last for as long as she is asleep.
Visitors were invited to watch the artist sleep, and feel her presence as they explored Nunhead Cemetary Chapel.
